I was recently tagged by K. S. Bowers with the Lucky Seven Meme. I think this is the first blogging meme/award I have been tagged with. At least no one has ever notified me otherwise. It was practically serendipity that I realized I was tagged with this one. Fortunately, Ms. Bowers does not post so much that I can’t keep up with her blog. Since I have nothing else to blog about at the moment, I figured I’d run with it.
Apparently the rules are that I post seven lines from page 77 from whatever work in progress I have going at the moment. Dutifully, I compiled the my WIP only to find it was 66 pages long. That was single spaced, so I switched it to double spaced and chose some lines from page 77. It’s not seven lines. I added a few for context and let a paragraph finish out so it wouldn’t end in the middle of the action.
Faith stepped up to the railing so she could look down. “How far do you think it is to the ground?”
I looked over the side. “I don’t know. Twenty-five, maybe thirty feet.”
“Didn’t you once tell me a human could land safely from a height of about fifteen feet?”
“Uhm, yeah. Ten or fifteen.” I didn’t like where this was heading.
Faith took me by the shoulder with one hand and grabbed the front of my tunic with the other. She picked me up and swung me around like a sack of parts. Before I knew what was happening she held me over the wrong side of the balcony. My legs dangled nervously trying to find something beneath them. She paused giving me an instant to gather my bearings and look her in the eye. The sparkle within them squinted slightly from her smile. Her reassuring voice sang, “You know what you need to do.” She gave me another moments pause before she started counting down. “Three,…, Two,…,”
The next part is going to be tough. I’m supposed to tag seven more victims with this meme, but I’m not sure I know seven writers who blog, so I’ll just tag people who foolishly visited my blog or other random people and see what comes of it:
Sorry to drag you all into this. Maybe you’ll be lucky enough to not notice.
