December’s Goals

I am rather embarrassed as to how badly I washed out on November’s goals. I mean I really did badly up to including really phoning it in on my ten November blog posts.  I think I had two that one could argue had merit, so for that I apologize.  I will do better this month.

I have finally been replaced at work.  Something I’ve been looking forward to for a while so that I could get some writing time.  In fact, I have most of the next week off.  (My work weeks run from Friday to Thursday.)  I have been bursting with the need to write, so I want to get a fair amount done this next week.  Especially since the end of the month will be utilized for traveling to see family & friends.

Goal 1:  I want to write 10k words the first week.  If I’m so eager top write, that should be a reasonable goal to push for.  For the month, I’d like to get in 20k, but honestly, I’ll settle for 15k because at some point I’m going to have to leave the hovel and get some Christmas shopping done.  For those that don’t know, I’m a bit of a slow writer on account of I self edit as I go.  It’s a bad habit, but I can’t seem to help it.  Maybe in January I’ll set a goal to reduce that habit.  As a result I tend to write 300-500 words an hour.

Goal 2:  I want ten quality blog posts.  Like I said above, I’ve been doing poorly in that category so it’s time to step up my game.  By the way, I’m counting this as a quality post.  I’m trying to advertise my goals on here to help keep me accountable.  Unfortunately, this past month I didn’t.

Goal 3:  My big goal for last month was to get my novel Dim Speak onto Amazon and Smashwords.  Alas, I didn’t even start that project.  I should have gotten on that, but I did have some issues early on with how I wanted to market the book, but once I got that sorted out, I was working ridiculous hours.  As in, working 14 of the last 17 days of November ridiculous.  So I’m disappointed, but I was awfully tired so I’m not going to beat myself up.  I just need to get it out there.  No more excuses.

So that’s it for the writing goals.

I have started the sequel, Blood Speak.  As an amusing little teaser, here’s the first paragraph:

I appeared outside the gates of Heaven for the second time in two weeks. In this case, my guardian Angel stood next to me as opposed to passed out on the ground after being crushed and beaten by a dragon. Speaking of that dragon, my stomach still felt heavy. I’d eaten nothing but his smoked flesh for four days and looked forward to a nice salad.

Good luck to everyone with their December goals.  Even if they are to simply not get trampled while shopping.
